I took this to a jeweler, who put it under a microscope. I’m a geologist, so just by heft and the striations I could tell it was quite impure. It’s corundum, just heavily fluxed (filled in) with glass. Wasn’t worth the $70 DHL bill to send it back to India. Also, due to the flux, it’s only suitable for mounting. I can’t drill a hole to use it on a chain.
