I wasn't expecting this item to last for many, many years but did expect it to last at least a year and it did not. It broke while leaning over a table to retrieve a piece of paper. There was not much pressure to make me think I was crushing the necklace. As I straightened up I felt something hit my leg and sure nuff it had broken in half. Very cheaply made.
