I didn't know what African Waist beads were, I was just looking for larger than seed beads for a bracelet. These are real pretty the color is very deep and they look more like they were an older style bead. I used to buy a lot of old African trade beads and these look more like that. Good for making bracelets.

I have been wanting to try waist beads as a way of monitoring my weight without constant weighing. These were easy to tie on. I added a little permanent glue to the knot for extra insurance. I have worn them for about two months, and they have stayed on with no trouble. They have worked the way I wanted them to. If I gain a few pounds, they start to sit a little higher around my waist, and if I lose a few pounds they rest lower, towards my hips. Besides that, they make me feel pretty--I wear them under my clothes--they aren't for anyone else to see, but I really like wearing them.
