I’m a bit conflicted about the TEXNEWS Spring Bar Tweezer. It’s a lovely piece of machined aluminum and, with its variety of knurled knobs, looks like a precision instrument. The plastic case is great for storing it securely and I like that it comes with a package of spring pin forks. However, installing those spring pin forks into the tweezer is pretty fiddly. The forks are scalloped on one side and flat on the other, which means that you must install the forks very precisely, with the scalloped sides facing each other, or it significantly limits the gap range of the tweezer. Once I had the forks installed correctly and parallel to each other, it was necessary to use a metric ruler to set the gap of the tweezer to the intended width of the band, in my case, 22 mm. And this is really where the problems started. The longer screw in the middle adjusts the gap width of the tweezer, but to achieve 22 mm, the screw must be extended almost to the point that it falls out of the tool. Adjusting and measuring and adjusting and measuring, etc, to get the right gap width made me feel like I could have already swapped out the spring pins by hand and been finished. The next step is to load the spring pin into the tweezer, and when you’re installing just a spring pin, for example to use a NATO strap, the tweezer is pretty effective. But when I was trying to install spring pins with a strap attached, things rapidly became very frustrating. Removing spring pins with the strap attached was fairly easy—once you had properly measured and set the tweezer gap. But again—I could have done this so much faster with a single ended spring pin removal tool.To store the tweezer back in its case, you have to remove the forks, so the measurement/adjustment process has to be repeated every time. I would be tempted to just set the tool to 20 mm and leave it on my workbench. With a lot of practice, I might get good enough to justify using this tool, but I’m not sure I’m willing to put in the time.Overall, I’m going to give this tweezer four stars because it has excellent quality and finishing, but I just don’t think I have the patience to use it.

I am very pleased with this tool! I got this so I could easily change the bracelets and straps on my watches and it performs that task perfectly! Changing out the tips is straightforward but for me I need to use a magnifier to see which tip I am installing, I don't think this is an issue for most people though. I like the storage case it came with, it holds all the backup tips and the tool nicely and keeps them from getting bumped and knocked around.Great tool for any watch enthusiast

I get the idea and I love the idea, however, execution is not the best. It's not easy to get the holders lined up then squeeze to push the pins. I keep having slippage on one side or the other. I will not give up, so I could possibly update this to be the best watch tool ever made. However, dethroning the current spring bar tool will not be easy.

I used this tool on some watches that have very tight tolerances at their lugs - these take some lining up of the actual pins on either side, and a bit of practice. Take your time. I wish the pinch quality/smooth-ness was a little bit better, but overall it's a lot easier than using the tiny little pry tools that usually come with watch bands. If you're really struggling, one of these is worth a shot.

Acquired through Amazon Vine in return for an objective review. My opinions are mine, and I try very hard not to let the cost of the product to me influence my review. This tool is a welcome addition to my watch collecting hobby. I was quite surprised at how easily it compressed the spring pins, allowing a quick and clean removal of an old band without damaging it (or my fingers). That is the most difficult part of changing the band for me, and I'm sometimes reduced to cutting the old one away in the interest of time. The tool requires a fairly easy adjustment for the different widths of bands, but once set, it works on any band that width - today it was 22mm for me - without further adjustment. The tool maker advertises the ability to put in a new band, but that will take some practice to master, I fear. Spring pins have this nasty habit of slipping out of where you're trying to put them and flying across the table (or even the room) if your hands slip. One has to hold the watch, the watch band, and the compression tool firmly to get this to go together, and I don't have that down yet with only two hands. I haven't tried to remove a metal bracelet yet, but I can see where it could allow me to remove one with limited access to the pins that I couldn't get off before. Another thing to try in the near future. It seems very well made, and I would expect it to last for years. If you're a watch collector, watchmaker, or work with watch bands often, I believe this handy gadget will save you some time and trouble. The drawback is the price. That clearly moves it out of the I-only-change-a-band-once-every-two-years user category and into the professional or serious hobbyist range. As a collector, I give it a thumbs-up.
