Hi there. I very rarely review products (either positive or negative) online but I felt compelled to warn potential Timex buyers about my negative experience with these poor quality watches. I am a bit of a watch fanatic and have had several high end automatic watches over the years (Rolex, IWC, Omega, Breguet, GP etc.) but I also enjoy playing around with and collecting inexpensive quartz "beater" watches that can be worn in the harshest conditions without much worry. These include watches like the Seiko SKX (no longer in production), the Casio MDV106 "Duro" and the Citizen Promaster dive watches. It was in this context that I decided to take a flier on a Timex Allied Coastline a couple of summers ago (2019). So I dropped about $85 on the Timex website (not Amazon) using a 15% discount for joining their mailing list. The watch is pictured here FYI. I wore the watch every once in a while in a rotation with my other "beater" watches but, in general, it was very lightly worn and not abused at all (as you can see from the pictures). Well, a few weeks ago I picked up the watch and noticed that it was about 5 minutes behind the time shown on my iPhone. I thought this was strange because my other quartz watches are always right on the money and never pick up or lose any time unless the battery dies in which case the watch simply stops altogether. I had never experienced a quartz watch actually still "ticking" but losing time. I thought it was very odd but I went ahead and brought it into a jeweler and had the battery replaced for $10 just to see if that would solve the problem. And it has NOT. I set the watch to my iPhone and the Timex is now consistently losing 20-30 seconds per day! Even with a new battery! I expect my AUTOMATIC watches to either gain or lose a little time as that comes with the territory but why would I ever want an analog/quartz watch that can't even keep accurate time?Anyway, I realize this is an inexpensive watch (on Amazon right now for $99 I believe) and I am not losing any sleep over this, but I figured I would contact Timex directly anyway to see what they had to say. Well, the bottom line is that Timex apparently doesn't care too much about people like me having very negative experiences with their products. After speaking with the initial customer service representative and asking him to escalate the complaint to his supervisor, I was told that since my watch was 2 years and 3 months old and therefore beyond the one year warranty period all they could do was offer to repair the watch for me for $30 plus tax plus the cost of shipping! Needless to say I will not be pursuing that option for a watch that I paid $85 for in the first place. That would be a classic case of throwing good money after bad. The watch will be going directly into my garbage can and filed in my head under "lessons learned".So, the purpose of this review is to simply warn any potential Timex buyers that if you are looking for a solid, reliable inexpensive quartz watch then Timex should be avoided. They are simply not reliable and their customer service department has no interest in keeping their customers happy. You can find PLENTY of amazing quartz watches from the likes of Casio, Seiko, Citizen and others that will run forever at pretty much any price point you are looking for. All you need to do is replace the battery every couple of years.Timex should be embarrassed that they are selling these watches with the expectation that they will only keep time for about a year. So, you've been warned!Good luck!
