I bought this press about three months ago and have used it at least ten times since. It has worked perfectly each time.Others have given great, detailed reviews, so I'll only touch on a few points.First- the quality of manufacture. This is a plastic press with a few key parts made out of metal. Some have complained about the plastic, but to cast and machine this device would cost the consumer far more than the $15 and shipping. There have been complaints that the extraction pin is not strong enough. These are incorrect. If the pin were stronger, and made of titanium as somebody suggested, it would be prone to break or snap at the slightest misstep. As it is, the pin will bend considerably before breaking. When you see this happening, STOP.Second- function. This tool is very easy to use if one observes a few simple precautions. Use it in a well lighted work space. Use a magnifying glass, lens, or loupe if necessary. You must align the pin to the hole so that the extractor is parallel in two planes- left-right and up-down. The band rests on a spring-loaded platform, so care must be taken to apply enough pressure to get the band even with the pin (the up-down plane). Then slowly turn the knob until you see the extractor enter the link hole, centered and parallel. Turn slowly and you'll feel a very slight resistance, and then it moves easily and the pin will be driven out the other side of the link. If you feel a strong resistance- STOP. You may be striking the band with the extractor and not the pin. This is how the extractor gets broken.I've removed several links in several watches, each in just a couple of minutes or less, because this tool is a breeze to use. Once I took out one link too many, and would have lived with that, if not for this tool. In just a minute, I reinstalled the link and was back in business. The original extractor pin is still intact. If you are impatient, avoid this tool and take your watches to a jeweler. Otherwise, if you have even a couple of watches that need the bands resized, you will be extremely satisfied with the results. This is a bit of plastic and metal that thinks it's a precision instrument, and acts like it. Who am I to tell it otherwise.

I always read the 1 star reviews to get an idea of what people are complaining about. After reading the 1 star reviews on this product I had no problem ordering it, and now that I have used it I know I made the right choice. This is one of the the EASIEST and most useful tools I've ever used. If you can't use this tool without breaking it you probably shouldn't be doing any kind of DYI repair. It's that easy to use. One review says it only fits small width bands like ladies watches. Not true. Out of the box my bit was already screwed in a few turns. I had to retract the bit... a bit. My men's Victorinox Swiss Army watch fit with plenty to spare. The spring loaded platform is a great idea. I can't imagine using a similar tool without the spring loaded platform since bands are not all the same thickness. Simply place the watch band against the edge of the tool with the arrow on the bottom of the band point out, press on the platform until it's at the correct height and align the pin hole with the pin remover. Slowly turn the screw until you meet resistance. At that point move the band slightly to "find" where the pin is located. Once you know you have the right spot continue turning the screw and the pin will pop right out the other end. You don't have to push it all the way through. All you need is a bit of the pin sticking out the other end to pull it out all the way either with your fingernail or small needle nose pliers or tweezers. To put the pin back in, enter the hole from the same side that it came out and with the pin in the same direction that it was removed. I had to remove four links and each one was that simple. It took maybe 15 - 20 minutes to do the job.I've used it once and it's already paid for itself. I usually don't give 5 stars unless there was a problem and the company goes out of its way to fix it. From a price/performance/value perspective this tool is a 5.

Works as intended changed two links out of my watch very easy and fast.Pros:Since it is plastic where the band lays it leaves no marks and does no damage to the band as some metal tools could do if the person is heavy handed, it also comes with four pins (.85mm)-three extra and one already in tool. Better throat design- the useful bandwidth is 7/8" whereas cheaper tools have a useful bandwidth of 1/2".Cons :The pin is not the screw in type, but has a flat side notched into it where the set screw goes, the pins are small as is the setscrew so you will need a 1/8" flathead screwdriver to remove set screw, which should have been included for this price.I thought the purpose of this review was to actually "rate" the tool-pros/cons, not to talk about alternative means of removing the pins. Besides if you lack the mechanical ability to use this simple tool it is likely you need to be seeing a qualified jeweler before attempting to use alternative means.
