Stuhrling Blue Dial Depthmaster Heritage Honest Review

Water resistance rating left off because I never actually used/properly wore the watch. Not sure if I might return it, I kept it in resellable condition with the band not adjusted and all the plastic intact. I do this on any item I am not sure to keep--fair is fair after all. As for watches, I adjust the time and monitor them unworn for a few days to see if they will function properly. Check the bezel function on divers, and the various timing elements on Chrono's.Considering that I merely unlatched the bracelet without sizing, and held the band while the watch lay on my arm, I immediately liked the feel of the watch--good heft, and good case 'curvature'--it is a solid feeling watch which gives confidence to the product choice. For those interested, the indices line up nicely, with the bezel not as good, but good enough, as the hands. The niggles:1) Watch looks better in photo than in person; the green is a bit light and the combo with the SS makes for something of a hard to read timepiece; while I like the sword hands, in the green/SS combination, with this particular green and this shade of SS it don't quite make it for either looks or readability--doable, but not what I was hoping for.2) Bezel has a bit of backplay--at this pricepoint very acceptable, but as a timer a bit disappointing--wish the company charged a few bucks more and tightened up the rotationing (uni) bezel. The watch is so solid otherwise, this point kind of negatively sticks out.Tell you what though, I still had a hard time returning this piece--if I weren't saving for other items I want, I would have kept it.Conclusion: Color wise, it's hard to make a 'green eyed monster' combined with SS color--if you try, you need to pay attention to the color shades so the whole thing doesn't look faded, which this watch unfortunately does. But, since I still like the feel, heft, and overall quality of the watch, I went looking for a different green color combo and found (not from Amazon, I tried, but Stuhrling doesn't offer it here)-a green, SS and gold version with the classic mercedes hour hand--while I'd rather have the sword hands, this green/SS/gold job comes with the former.I think the Stuhrling company is playing the Invicta game the proper way by offering watches that have apparent good quality control--less ostentatious and fewer choices, but better watches. Good bargain diver--find the color you like and buy it--at this price it's a no-brainer.

Nice automatic watch. I wish came with tools to adjust the band. I had tools already. But would be z nice touch.

I wanted to contribute with an unbiased, honest and detailed review about this watch. Background:There is not enough or accurate information for that matter with this watch online. Yes, there are people that love it and people that hate it, however I found a lot of the people that have problems with it either never owned one (and they use their watch-making knowledge as an excuse to talk about a product they haven’t personally experienced) or it was bought from a questionable retailer instead of buying them directly from the brand it self. I own three of these watches: One is 8 years old, the other one 1 year old and I recently got a third one.The watch and its assembly origin:This watch is assembled in Hong Kong under the American brand Stührling (They are based in Brooklyn, New York) They have manufactured a very well put together watch made out of stainless steel, solid crystal on top of the watch face (They use a proprietary crystal called Krysterna) and a reliable quartz-powered Japanese movement .The movement of the watch:This is where a lot of so-called “watch experts” got it all wrong. And mostly because they don’t own the piece so they leave an unfair review as if they knew what it is that they hate so much. This is a Japanese Miyota 2315 movement. This is a well-proven design and used in many watches across the board. It is manufactured in Japan (Not Hong Kong) and then shipped for final assembly in China. It uses a SR26SW battery (Mine is SONY branded, but I’ve seen Maxell branded as well) to power this quartz-based movement that offers an accuracy of +-20 seconds/month. The manufacturer specifications for this movement states that battery has life span of 3 years (I personally change it after 2 years before the power is too low so I don’t loose accuracy. I also like to replace the rubber seal too so I can keep swimming with it with peace of mind). This movement has NO jewels inside making it very affordable and it’s unadjusted (This means that the manufacturer has not performed a tune fining of the movement for its best accuracy possible) making it even more affordable (Most people are totally OK with an error margin of up to 20 seconds per month) This movement is widely available in different calendar configurations. The one in this piece is a 2315-20A variation. The design of the watch:Beautiful design. I own two blues and one green. The reason why I have 2 blues is that one of them has the Arabic numbers. This is a very refined blue. It looks very elegant specially under white light (Cloudy days, office environment and so on) The green one looks great with brown jackets or black shirts. It looks at least 5 times the price tag. Period. Is it just me or the submarine embossed in the back of the watch is so cool? The economics of the watch:The Miyota movement in this particular variation has a retail price of $11, then, you have to factor the battery, the dial, the watch hands, the crystal, the case, the bezel, the crown, the strap, the value of the design, the packaging, the shipping, the importation cost to the US, the 2-year warranty, marketing material and these guys still need to make a profit. I don’t know about you, but this price is a steal. It’s very unlikely that you’ll get this level of quality and support at this price point.

Got this on sale here for under 2 bills. It was a gift to my son as he wanted a mechanical watch (first watch) and didn’t want to spend too much not knowing if he would like wearing one on a regular basis. Anyhow he loved it and it keeps time to 10 seconds a day. Not bad at this price point. I’ve paid more for worse. I have a time grapher and can regulate most my watches to a second or two a week usually. I’ve offered to regulate his if he can part with it for a week to give me time to tweak it several times to get it better.

I received my green diver and it was used and dirty. The box was broken and the watch was just thrown in there. The bezel looks kind of cheap, the band looks unfinished on the clasp when opened, and the whole thing looked cheap. I know you don’t look at that clasp inside when closed but I just expected higher quality. My buddy got the red and black one and it looked a bit nicer than the green. I own another Sturhling and I love it. The watch is also a bit heavier than expected. Worth the price if you don’t expect a whole lot. Very disappointed. I wanted to like it!!

Looks and feels like a million bucks. This is exactly what I wanted. Very satisfied. Happily recommended.

It's an attractive solid good looking watch. I've viewed a number of watch reviewers who get into nuance that goes beyond a guy that wants a decent watch that will not break your heart in the event of a loss by theft or damage.Having said that I have had numerous compliments on this watch thus far. And the online reviewers give it around a 6 out of 10 because it's not the hundreds of dollars price range. It's just a really nice watch!
