My mother was born in Glasgow, Scotland and the thistle is their country's flower so I wanted to buy her a thistle related piece of jewellery for Christmas this year. I saw this brooch and since she doesn't have any brooches, I thought it would be perfect. When I opened the box, I was well pleased with this brooch - just beautiful and I know that when she opens the box on Christmas morning, she will be ever so surprised and delighted.

The pin is very lovely, but against the silver it is very hard to see the stone. It is definitely a disappointing stone color...no way strong purple.

While the weight of the brooch is fine, there is no color in the stones - certainly not any purple that one would associate with an amethyst - in fact the stones are indistinguishable from the silver, so it doesn't look like there are any stones in it at all unless you look very closely.
