Inexpensive garnet gems are often dark brown rather than deep rich red color normally associated with January’s birthstone. But the six round-cut faceted stones used in this simple cross are a perfect shade of burgundy. The delicate necklace is a classic style and is sized for a young teen through an adult.Sometimes measurements do not paint a clear picture so I have added a photo or two to show the cross is almost exactly the size of a dime coin. Given the modest price, the quality of the stones and setting is a pleasant surprise. The 18 inch chain, although thin, is lovely and the spring-ring style clasp is large enough to be readily functional. Rhodium plated, the sterling silver should not tarnish,This would make a good charm for a bracelet or it could be used as a single earring. And, of course the pendant may be placed on a different chain to add length or change the look of the piece.

This necklace would make an excellent gift for a young woman who is being confirmed or having her first communion, or a graduation or teen-baptism type of gift. The cross is just less than an inch long, and holds 6 gems separated by metal beads. I like that the backs of the gems are not covered, so light goes through the blue topaz gems nicely and the stones look bright. The rhodium plated sterling silver is very nice and shiny, the necklace looks very delicate and dainty.I will say, I think this necklace is best suited for young women, as the chain is very tiny and delicate. I'm 31 and have a short, thicker neck, and I felt like it looked short and understated on me. But it would be PERFECT for a young girl or young woman. Plus, the price... this is a "nice" piece of jewelry you'd buy at Claire's. Not something a grown woman would necessarily care for and keep through the decades to hand down. The price and quality reflect that. This is a nice necklace for the price, a great non-expensive yet pretty gift for a younger girl in my opinion.It came in a simple black box, nicely arranged with a faux suede setting.
