Chinese freshwater cultured pearls are cultivated in a river mussel called the tetragon shell mussel ( hyriopsis cumingii) and its hybrids. They range in size from 2-14mm and occur naturally in a variety of hues including white, ivory, pink, blush, peach and lavender purple, and can be enhanced to a silver and black color. Freshwater pearls are known for their wide variety of shapes including round, drop, button, baroque, and various free-form shapes.

Just received this a few minutes ago and was very excited to open it because I wanted to see if the color matched some other pink pearls that I have. However, when I opened the box, the pearls appeared well packed in foam, but I could see a hole in one of the pearls, so I knew something was wrong. Removed the pearl and it appears to have come unglued from the post. The post is still sitting in the slot of the foam. While I could attempt to glue it back, the pink isn’t quite the same as the pearls I already have, so these will be returned.
