Purchased Blue - SSB409 for our 20 year old son for Christmas, who has become quite the watch collector. He loves it! This is a very handsome watch. It's a great size. Not too big, not too small. Our son is 6'2" and average weight. This watch does not get lost on him. He likes to change bands and this was easy to change. The sale price was the bonus!

I purchased the Seiko SSB409. Really pleased with the quality and aesthetics of this watch. For the price point there is a lot to like. First of all is the color combination. The blue dial and orange speedometer hand compliment each other well. The polished steel indices and sub dials really shine. The dial itself has some interesting textures and depth. Not always easy to read but it's still beautiful to look at. It appears to have several layers that overlap each other, and from what I understand the designers at Seiko were trying to create a pattern that resembles a transaxle and/or gear shaft. If you’re into cars you’ll really appreciate these little details. The pusher at the 3 o’clock position even looks like an engine piston. And the sub dials have that automobile dash gauge look. I also really love the case shape. With its chiseled and drilled lugs it makes changing straps a breeze. This is a feature (drilled lugs) you normally only see on higher end watches. It’s my first mecha-quartz and I’m impressed with how orange hand almost beats as smooth as an automatic. The only thing I didn’t care for was the nato strap. It’s good quality but I have never liked them, so I put mine on leather. Can’t go wrong with this chronograph. At 41mm it’s extremely versatile and should look good on smaller and larger wrist sizes. I wear on a 7 inch wrist and it looks and feels great. Oh and something not mentioned by a lot of other reviewers is that this is made in Japan. I didn’t expect that at all but it’s right there on the case back. Not all of the Seiko Essential watches are completely made in Japan. Most of them have the Japan made Seiko movement but are cased elsewhere, but this really puts the icing on the cake.

I was never a "watch guy", but I appreciate good design. I usually wear my Galaxy Smart Watch, but after a year or so of customizing it (dial, bands, bezels), I've realized I've become bored of its digital nature and not necessarily its design. I dabbled in a few G-Shocks as a way to get my toes wet into analog but ultimately found them to be toy-ish or lacking somewhere.Enter Seiko - the move to my first Seiko felt organic - the style, quality, design and value all aligned for me on this particular watch. It feels substantial, and I enjoy wearing it and looking at it. My only complaint would be the Luma, it's not great...like at all, but I'll manage. This watch has been a win for me - and after already smacking it into my wall on accident to find that it didn't leave a mark yet destroyed the paint on my wall, I know I have a durable piece. Seiko has a new fan.

Very comfortable. I like that Seiko has this designed with the ability to size the wrist band yourself. It comes with a small tool and you can remove the links on your own. So once I received it I had it sized up correctly within a half hour. For design I feel that the watch looks great in any light. It has many points and details that catch light and shimmer. It’s a man’s watch so I don’t want to say it’s pretty per say, but it is eye catching. The green is a bit darker than I expected, but it fits the design just fine. While the bracelet is easy for the user to adjust, changing the battery sounds more difficult and the instructions don’t have a section on that other than telling you to have a professional do it. I feel like that should be an easy task for the end user. Now some things that I’m not particularly happy about. The only parts that light up with luminescence in the dark are the hour and minute hands, and one spot at twelve o’clock. I would be happier if 3, 6, and 9 had a little spot of luminescence as well.I think my biggest gripe is that for just shy of $200 I believe a watch should have sapphire Crystal. As I’m a bit new to buying more expensive watches I’m discovering more that it seems you have to get closer to the $500 price point to get a watch with a sapphire crystal. Personally I think that’s ridiculous. I have a fairly labor intensive career and so I’m a bit concerned about wearing it to work.Overall I am happy with my purchase. The watch comes in a nice box with a thick instruction book. Yes it has many languages but it is still quality.

I currently have a Tag Heuer Gulf Edition, but I wanted a sporty watch for daily wear that was somewhat similar. This is a really nice watch, but I didn't like the feel of the band at all. I have small wrists so the end of the band sticks out a lot and looked terrible on me. If you have big wrists, this won't be a problem. I swapped it out for a gray leather band that was shorter and it really compliments the face of the watch. We shall see how it holds up over time, no pun intended. This is a watch I won't feel bad about wearing daily and I can save the Tag for occasional use.
