I own a Orient Mako 1, an Orient Ray 2, several other watches including a Tissot Le Locle, and now this SNXS79J1.Seiko seems to be making moves, discontinuing beloved watch lines in the affordable range and reintroducing equivalent but less desirable watches at higher price points. The SNXS79J1 is one of the last Seiko 5's "Made in Japan". The other models that do not have this label are made in Malaysia (of similar or equal quality, but as a collector the "Made in Japan" has a certain value. The watch itself is gorgeous. The Lume is excellent as you can see by the pictures. The size is small, so if you're looking for something with large wrist presence, look elsewhere. For me, I wanted a watch similar to a Rolex Datejust or Explorer. This scratched that itch at an affordable price point, all without being a direct "Copy" of those models. It's a Seiko.. It just works. Also - you may want to ditch the bracelet. Its hollow and tin feeling and wobbles and rattles. Some people complain about this, but at the pricepoint it seems all of the "budget" went into the watch itself, not the bracelet. For me, that's where I want the money to be on an affordable watch anyway. If upgrading the bracelet, the lug size is an awkward 19mm. 19mm bracelets/straps are less common, so keep that in mind.I bought this as an every day watch. It can be dressy, it can be sporty. The Lumed hands and markers make it easy to read in any environment. The dial's reflective dark grey sunburst finish is stunning. Hopefully Seiko keeps making watches of this value for money well into the future (but seemingly they are transitioning away from that, so act fast!).

I decided to buy this watch on USA Amazon because it is no longer available in Italy and Europe. The watch also arrived a day earlier than expected but unfortunately it arrived damaged because it certainly got bumps during the trip. In fact it was packaged in a simple paper bag. And it was floating upside down in its box. I could have sent it back and asked for a refund and try to rebuy it. But it would have taken about 2 weeks just to get the refund without the certainty that the new order would have gone better. No manufacturer warranties card obviously and I already knew Watchsavings customer service isn't really good. They aren't really transparent. Totally no trust. And I knew. Honestly, it's not worth bothering with all this and I decided to take the watch to my watchmaker who fixed it for 20 euros (balance jumped out stones). In the end, I risked but I would never buy a higher level watch from these gray market sellers. You only risk wasting time and money. Your only guarantee is Amazon (30 days to return) and it may be fine but what if it goes wrong after 30 days? When you buy a watch the first thing is the warranty card. I totally do no recommend this kind of sellers or you do it knowing the risks.About the watch. It's just amazing. Stunning dial. The most beautiful seiko 5 now discontinued. And this J1 version adds that little extra value. But surely need for immediate replacement of the bracelet which is a joke. Just a note to Amazon always good but It is not really good to ship a mechanical watch in a paper bag? It is not a bar of soap. Probably it will be damaged and sent back!

Amazing dark grey sunburst dial and great classic design (think Rolex), however, it's a shame that the lug width is a non-standard 19mm making the availability of aftermarket stainless steel bracelets pretty limited. That being said, the stock bracelet is comfortable.Highly recommended for it's classic design, properly proportioned size for 6"-7" wrists, stunning sunburst dial, great lume (readable throughout the night with eyes adjusted to the dark), very comfortable on the wrist all day & night long at only about 85 grams, and so amazingly versatile - you can truly wear this watch anywhere with anything short of going swimming (although some Seiko 5 SNK809 owners have taken their 30 meter water resistant watches swimming and snorkeling without any problems). After years of wearing automatic watches, I've found that hacking and handwinding don't matter as much as durability and reliability, and as much as I like high-spec watches with sapphire crystals and higher caliber movements especially really nice dive watches that have wow-factor and wrist presence, this one has become my daily driver because it's so comfortable and looks great with everything.

This is a nice small-sized automatic watch with a beautiful sunburst gray dial and lume-filled applied indices. A lot of people say this is a great affordable alternative to a Rolex Datejust, but I think it also has a Tudor Black Bay 36 feel. The Tudor is an everyday watch with a dive watch dial but no rotating bezel. The dial and hands on this Seiko 5 are similar to the very first dive watch made by Seiko (the 62MAS), and the dial is similar to the modern interpretation of the 62MAS, the SBDC051. The biggest downside of this watch is the cheap bracelet, but that is common to nearly all Seiko 5's. I suggest replacing the stock bracelet with a nice leather strap. Overall, a great looking watch for the money! I purchased the watch from MOON-DOG Japan, who is an excellent seller with great customer service!

Watch looks great but doesn’t keep time. After just a few days of wearing it, the watch reverted to Arabic display and also was a day off

Really enjoying the watch. At first was upset because it had some small (micro) scratches. It was probably returned. Wanted it brand new, but it's a really popular model. The box was a little banged up, that's on Amazon I believe. It's still amazing value.

Everything is great about this watch.Keeps time fairly nice , has about a 8-10 hour power reserve and the lume for the hands lasts a while! My only complaint would be the band itself. It feels a bit cheap but if you intend on switching the band then it’ll be even better. The watch size (lug to lug) is fairly small so this will probably look better on individuals with smaller wrist sizes.I was scared at first to purchase this, but now, I’m glad I bought it.
