My BEAUTIFUL Seiko 5 Sports Waterproof Watch HONEST REVIEW!

A Closer Look at this Classically Styled Seiko Watch

Arrived on time and the indices line up perfectly. I see Seiko actually improved on their design since it's introduction, the made the bi-directional bezel a ratcheting one way bezel now and it stays in place quite nicely I might add. The Lume is also improved, it really glows nicely in the dark and stays glowing for hours, nice touch. I did purchase an aftermarket sailcloth blue band to match the watch (review elsewhere and the timepiece came packaged in a nice case and the watch was secured to a small pillow to insure against handling shock, another nice and thoughtful touch. All in all it is a very nice watch and I have a smallish wrist but it don't look at all ungainly on me. Keep in mind this is not a quartz watch but rather a mechanical, self winding movement so the inherent accuracy of a quartz movement is absent however, I full expect it to keep good time with the Seiko mechanical movement. I did not time graph it so we will see how it performs over the long haul as I'm planning on wearing it daily. I will remove it for showering and water activities even though it's 'water resistant' to 100 meters but not going to take the chance, just too nice a timepiece to risk water ingress. All in all, for the price, I give it a 10. Always been a Seiko follower and have a couple other Seiko's as well but this one will be my daily wearer.

This watch is a bit of a sleeper in the watch community. Over time, collectors often have a bit of a dilemma. Let me explain. I also collect knives and often, the things collectors are discussing have nothing to do with cutting. It's fit and finish, fancy materials, nostalgia, whatever, but they forget to mention if it can cut something easily/well. Watches can be a bit like this. For me, I have an some personal requirements to add to my selection process. My age has me desiring an easy to read watch. But that dovetails into my main idea here. Can it tell me the time, quickly, without confusion. This means I prefer larger dials, good contrast between the face, the markers, and the hands. I also prefer an appreciable differential in length between the minute and hour hands. For me, I want a watch to be able to take some abuse. If I'm walking down a hallway and bang my arm into a wall, I don't want to have to service it. I rarely run into people buying diving watches who also dive. This is true with me as well. Do I need to unscrew something to prevent it from getting water in it from a shower or 500 meters? I've never gone below 4-5 meters and that was back when I was around 14 years old. So keep in mind if something is built for the deep, do you want to unscrew the crown to adjust the watch if the only water it will see is a shower? This watch is good to 100 meters but that makes changing the time easier, no screw down crowns and yet it's good if Jim pushes me into a Koi Pond. This watch ticks all the marks I mentioned. The time is accurate (when wound, it's an automatic with manual capability), it's easy to read quickly (no double takes). And it's more waterproof than I need it to be. If I'm on a boat in the Philippines and fall into the drink, this will take it no problem. The bezel is a bit raised so the hardlex window, which is flat, is harder to scrape on things as I go throughout the day. The window on the back (exhibition case) allows one to see the inner workings. That's pretty cool especially if you like gadgety things.Lastly, people often complain about Seiko wristbands. Mine has the Silicone Band and it has a fake weave moulded into it. I love this band. I find it very comfortable, easy to put on, good spacing to fit different sized wrists, and the loop does a good job of holding the excess band. All in all, this is one of my best, especially for the price, watches.

This watch is better than expected. The band is a soft plastic or rubber material and is very comfortable and has flexible adjustment. I love that you can wind the watch fully with five turns of the crown dial. The crown dial has three positions. One position for winding, the middle position for setting day and date, and the outer position for setting the time. The lume glow feature gets very bright when exposed to bright light, but unfortunately does not last long when in the dark. The watch is very attractive and is as pictured. I love how the watch will wind based on arm movements. I also love that the second hand does not jump in increments but moves smoothly across the watch face. I totally recommend this watch.

Great looking watch for the money and relatively comfortable. Keeps time well, only had it for about 2 days but it seems to be running +10 seconds a day so far, which is well within spec especially for a watch at this price. The original silicone band it ships with is very soft and comfortable, however it looks great with many different bands. My favorite, if I had to chose, would be the blue nato strap that I also purchased on Amazon. It matches the blue dial color very closely and looks great. If I had to find something I dislike about this watch I’d probably say that I don’t like the placement of the crown. It often jabs into the top of my hand when I bend my wrist, but this has a lot to do with the way I wear my watch very close to my hand and if I had a chance to repurchase this watch knowing what I do now, it would not affect my decision in buying this particular one. Altogether this is a great first “real” watch for myself and would be a great buy for someone looking to get into watches or gift someone a present that will hold meaning and last for years to come.

This replaced a SNZG11K1 that I had since June that started keeping very poor time. This watch has a better movement than the previous 5 Sports model. This is a nice enough looking watch, but compared to the previous version there is very little detail on the dial. The case is all polished, whereas the previous model had a matte finish mostly. Can't figure out why it has a black band instead of blue? Changed out the black band for a blue Alpine silicone band and it looks much better. So far accuracy is pretty good with it losing about 4 seconds a day. Lume is ok, but does not last nearly as long as previous 5 sports models. Overall a pretty good value.
