The collar/choker is a cherry red faux leather with black metal spikes and an attached metal O-ring. I like that the central spikes are longer than the spikes toward the sides; it makes it easier to wear hoodies or jackets without them getting snagged on the long spikes. The outside surface of the collar is smooth and the inside surface that goes against the skin is a little softer, more like a suede or a very thin felt texture.The collar was very stiff when I first received it so I softened it by gently bending it a bit and holding it in front of a heater while I did so. Don't put on the collar right away after doing this because the spikes get hot!It isn't super comfortable to wear for long periods of time while it is still so stiff. The edges of the collar rub against my neck which causes some irritation. I have a small neck size and while the collar was able to be tightened to the correct fit, the extra length of the collar just sticks out and flaps over the spikes, and there isn't a good way to hide it. The red-black colour combination is so good though, so I hope it will break in a little bit if I wear it more often.
