I used this to hold a captive bead for a belly ring, and to clamp down the ring if needed to make sure it's tight to the bead. For that purpose, the divot in the clamping surface was helpful, but the clamp surface is wide enough to kind of get in the way its usefulness, like when you need needle nose pliers but only have regular ones. I also found that even for a 12mm diameter ring, this clamp is a little undersized. After I received it, I double-checked to see if there had been a size option that I might have missed, but no. It's just a little small. Worked for my needs with clamping the ring tighter, but just barely big enough.The metal is very nice quality, is smooth, and has enough weight to make you feel like you're holding a tool, not a toy. I do wish the handle part had a spring of some kind to make it spring open a touch. That makes it easier to use.
