I purchased this pendant in October of 2012 and have waited for a bit before posting a review. My reason for this is simple: Why post a review within a few days of receiving it, only to have it break shortly after? If I'm going to review something that people will look at and make judgements from, I want it to be as accurate as possible. I can honestly say this pendant was a pleasant surprise to me in many ways which I will describe for you.To those of you looking at this pendant for its aesthetics, you will not be disappointed. Upon first discovering this pendant, I was hesitant when I read it was pewter. Anyone who has owned pewter knows it can be rather weak and breaks. It is definitely a lot tougher than it looks, and is quite fitting considering the symbols. The pendant itself is highly polished, and though it will lose a bit of the luster as time progresses (assuming you wear it constantly), it does not take away from the splendor of it. The picture does not do this pendant justice at all. The symbols stand out very well, and the polished pewter makes it nearly breath taking. There are only two things I do not like about it. One is the cord that it is attached to, it sort of looks like a shoe string. However, because of the little bead and the fact that the cord is tied in a rather simple knot, the cord is easy to replace. The second thing is it does get caught in your hair. Not really a problem with the necklace itself, as any long necklace will do the same, but sometimes it likes to really get caught. To those of you who may be looking at this for spiritual purposes, I will say again that you won't be disappointed. Accompanying the package is a small pamphlet describing in detail (more than what is listed in the description) of each symbol, and it will not take you long to realize this was made for you. I use it in my daily life, and keep it with me as I sleep. I love this pendant, and if I could I would give it 100 stars.

This is a replacement for a necklace I had for many years, just as good quality. I wanted this exact piece because the design means a lot to me personally. This is a very thoughtfully designed piece for a person who’s more than just superficially into Norse mythology. Also, bonus points for being about the the only “Viking pendant” on amazon that actually says anything with the runes, most just say “futhark...”, which is just like abcdefg.

I am VERY pleased with this pendant. The detail is exquisite, and it is much sturdier than most pewter pendants. I'm not into Norse mythology other than as an interesting bit of history, but the designs and runes on this pendant are visually striking. If you like Norse mythology and/or Ravens, this is a great pendant for you.Note: It comes on a string, which is basically just a black shoelace. I bought some red suede cord to replace the string, it looks MUCH nicer now. However, the string it comes with will suffice, and doesn't look awful.

After reading the reviews, I expected this piece to be smaller. The raven design was exactly what I wanted so I took a chance. So worth it! Yeah, it's basically strung on a shoestring but it only took me a minute to restring on a 2mm rolled leather lace cord.

As a piece of jewelry this is beautiful and the triangular shape is very masculine as far as necklaces go.However the pamphlet that went along with this amulet was very incomplete and failed to fully describe all the runes and symbols adequately. It was just enough to give a cursory meaning and as the purpose of keeping an amulet is to create a physical representation of beliefs told through symbols I really wish the description of this piece would have been more thorough. It described the runes on the front of the amulet well with Valhalla under Huginn and Muninn with the runes representing birth and death on top with the symbol of war between. The Valknut on the front is similar to the Borromean rings in that no two triangles are actually connected to one another but as a trinity they are bound to one another, these triangles have been said to represent the three qualities of a Norse warrior in battle rage(berzerk), ecstasy(intoxication), and impulse(inspiration); perhaps also the body, mind, and soul. The Valknut is typically associated with Odin. The reverse side is less described, to the best of my knowledge the runes at the top represent creation and destruction with the symbol of Gungnir, the spear with which Odin is to slay Fenrir the wolf at Ragnarok, between. Mystically Gungnir may symbolize the continuity between creation and destruction as any weapon is. The three drinking horns are associated with the three drinks Odin took from Odhroerir and the wisdom he took from them which was brought forth when the warring gods of the Aesir, symbolizing ledership and creation; the Vanir ,symbolizing balance and nature; and the Jotnar ,symbolizing deception and descrutction; came together in cooperation and celebration. The runes at the bottom spell Odhroeir, the mead that was mead that was made from the blood of the God Kvasir who was made of the saliva (perhaps a euphemism for sperma) of all the conflicting gods. I see it as a symbol of magic, the force created when creation, balance, and destruction come together. So in many ways the amulet is double sided, one side representing war, the reverse representing art. I wear the side of war to the front when engaging in competition, and the reverse when engaging in cooperation. They are though, of course, simply two sides to the same story.I have taken some neuropsychology and I attribute Huginn and Muninn as the fundamental process of consciousness. The brain works on two forces, one that tries to predict the future and one that remembers past experiences, and when our memory reflect our predictions we experience reward. Both work together to create consciousness and learning, for we strive both to prepare for what may come and to remember what has been. In Norse tradition Huginn and Muninn flew over all of Midgard each day to inform Odin of the worlds events and Odin was sometimes worried that one or the other would not return to him. They were given the ability to speak and were said to both feast on death and heal the sick.

I have bought jewelry on Amazon before only to receive cheap quality made pieces. This is a finely crafted and well thought out pendant! It is double sided and for those who are unable to read runes or know little about the specific symbolisms on each side, it come with the meanings. I am happy to have this and wear it with pride and honor. I commend this seller on their craftsmanship and knowledge of ancestry.

Pendant is just as great in person as the pic. Nice and thick so no way it can break. Cord is weak and I tied it so I could adjust length as it hangs rather low but for the price I feel like I got a cord for free. Nothing negative to say about this piece. In fact I've had nothing but great luck since putting it on. I wear it everyday now. All hail Odin!
