Not so sure I understand the asymmetry of the small rounder pearls and the large, more irregular ones; with the former taking up about 1/3 of the necklace on one side, so the transition occurs around my collarbone. You have to look quite carefully at the first photo on the product page to see that design element and you have to have a trained eye or be alert to those kinds of things. Look carefully at the other photos and you will notice that there is a section on one side that is different to the rest. I really like the irregularly shaped pearls - they have an appealing luster - and would have preferred that the small ones be positioned on either side of the clasp. Nevertheless, I like the necklace.The necklace has a gold colored lobster clasp and extender chain. These do seem to be real freshwater pearls (if you rub them against each other they create some powder).

I love the texture that this necklace brings to my outfits. There is a slight change in the size of the pearls about two thirds of the way through which is interesting and allows you to adjust the necklace to show which side you want to display. I always put this necklace on last and take it off first thing when I get home, and I've had no issues with discoloring or tarnishing of either the pearls or the gold clasp so far.
