Nose Ring Sizing: How to Get a Perfect Fit

Step 1: Find Your Gauge

The gauge" of body jewelry refers to the thickness of the item, which directly correlates to the needle size that is used to pierce you.

Everyone's nose is different; your local piercing professional will choose an appropriate size gauge to accommodate the size and shape of your nose. Since there are so many differently sized noses, there are also several different gauge sizes made to suit everyone's unique anatomy and aesthetic.

The gauge of the item is extremely important to the fit of the item. Standard sizing for nose rings is normally a 20 gauge; this means the thickness of the portion that goes through the piercing is approximately 0.8 millimeters.

Step 2: Find Your Proper Diameter

"Diameter" is the distance between the inside edges of the nose hoop at its largest point. For nose hoops, the diameter is measured instead of the length.

Depending on how high up your piercing is and how large or small your nostril is, an incorrect diameter can end up looking a little funky. A properly measured diameter will look the most aesthetically pleasing, so it's very important to measure correctly!

The two most common diameter sizes for nose hoops are 5/16″ (8mm) and 3/8″ (10mm). Individuals with larger noses or with large-gauge nose piercings may need rings with a larger diameter size. In this case, if possible, measuring a hoop that already fits can be a good benchmark.

If you need a size that isn’t commonly sold on our site, visit your local professional piercer. They will measure both your jewelry and your nose and can recommend a size that will work for you.

Safety and Precautions

When it comes to your nose piercing, knowing what not to do is just as important as knowing how to maintain it. To maintain a nose piercing:

• Don’t apply over-the-counter antiseptics, including Neosporin. If you think your piercing is getting infected, continue your saline rinses and see your piercer for advice.

• Don’t use hydrogen peroxide — this will cause irritation in the piercing.

• Don’t twist or play with your nose jewelry, as this will irritate the piercing.

• Don’t touch your piercing with dirty hands.

• Never share nose rings or studs with other people.

• Don’t ever force a ring back into the piercing hole. This can damage your skin. If it’s not going in right away, gently insert the ring in a clockwise motion until it sets.

I personally love this nose ring. The previous one I had was not a full circle and had a ball at one end to stop if from going all the way through the hole to hold it in place. The way you got in on and off was to bend the metal, put it in your nose, then bend the metal again. I didn't really mind doing this for a while but eventually after I believe a year or 2 the metal started to bend very easily. It would get caught on my partners shirt and bend then fall out. Thus started the search for one that just..... couldn't fall out.THIS IS THE ONE! 10/10!The only issue is that it does spin easily. So sometimes the gems are showing and other times it just looks like a plain black nose ring. I don't particularly care as they both look good. I know another review mentioned their nose getting irritated since this ring can spin easily. I just want to nose that I do have sensitive skin that gets easily irritated with metals. I've had NO irritations with this. Only positives. I'd love if they made more colors.

I got the 20g 8mm and it’s absolutely perfect. The blue is really pretty. It does click closed. I love it so far!

Was a little skeptical but I’m in love! It came pretty fast for the most part and was super easy to put it and fits perfectly! I got the 20g 7mm and my nose is pretty small and it’s snug without being too hard to work with. Plus it’s nice and dainty. If you are wanting the diamonds to show more I would go with something else but if you want something simple and elegant get this! You won’t regret it:)

I thought the diamonds would be more noticeable but overall really cute!

I don’t like these. The clasps don’t snap into place. I’m constantly having to line the closures up and hope they stay in place. I am currently looking for a new pair of these from a different company because these ones are absolutely sub par.

I was so worried that the stones would be too large, uncomfortable, or just gaudy looking in my nostril piercing. I’m glad I was wrong! It’s perfect. The construction is delicate AND great quality. It’s comfortable , lightweight, and as easy to use as any other hidden hinge nose ring I’ve used. I got the multicolored first, and now I’m adding the solid colors to my cart!

The ring is so small that you really can't tell there are gems on it, let alone that they are pink ones. I already suspected as much by reading another review, but I was willing to take the chance. Well, looking in the mirror I can not only not tell they are pink stones, but can barely see that there are stones at all as it is so small and thin. However, it is still a cute ring and VERY comfortable. Just wish the stones were more obvious, even if the pink weren't visable. I still like it and wear it, though. My husband also thinks it is cute, which says A LOT. Usually he could care less, lol.

This nose ring is very nice, pretty and sparkly but I had to return it because I got the blue to light to match a dress for my grandaughter's prom
