I have come to really appreciate the quality of Seiko mechanical watches. And I like watches with NO batteries to Ever have to replace. This is my 5th mechanical Seiko 5, and they are all reliable, stylish, quality watches. This one is by far the least expensive of the 5, but after 6 months of use, seems to be every bit as good a watch as the other ones. The blue face is a beautiful distinction from the more common watch face colors. The luminous glow of the hands and hour markers is very long lasting, compared to most watches these days that do not have tritium faces. It will glow enough to see all night when exposed to light before bedtime. It keeps great time and easily stays wound up as long as I wear it every day. I picked this and the other Seiko watches I have for the smaller size, which is hard to find these days of monster watch case sizes. The only complaint I have is the link removal design on the Seiko bracelet is difficult for resizing the band. I took 4 links out to fit my small wrist.

I collect automatic watches. This is one of my most favorite Automatic watch for design, reliable, beauttiful automatic watch for $100.

Having owned automatic watches for decades, this one from Seiko is somewhat of a disappointment. While my other watches (2 Rolex's and a Seiko Kinetic) continue to operate on an automatic watch winder, this watch will generally stop in a day or two after placing it in the same auto winder. When worn on the wrist it is accurate and runs as it should, but its not a watch that is easily switched with others without resetting time, day and date. It's other fault would be weight, its very heavy compared to other mechanical watches (especially my Rolex's that once seemed weighty). In all fairness, however, it does a lot for $100.

I really like these Seiko 5 watches a lot. This is my 2nd one. They are not without their faults though. I highlight what I like about them first and then their faults.I like these mainly because they are fully mechanical self winding watches. I love the concept. Not only because they require no batteries, but also because I find them to be mechanical marvels! A fully mechanical watch that keeps good time for under $100, sign me up. If worn daily, as mine is, it never needs winding and the battery never goes dead, because there isn't one. As I stated this is my second Seiko 5 and this one keeps better time out of the box than my last one. It is off less than 30 seconds per week. My last one was off about 1 minute per day and took me quite a while to get it dialed in.This watch is also well made and has a very nice looking face and hands. I have no complaints about the build quality on these. I especially like the blue face of this one in particular. Along with keeping good time I also like the Seiko 5 because they not only have the date but also display the day. Working 3rd shift my day starts one day and finishes another, so as dumb as it may sound I sometimes have a hard time keeping track of the day of the week. These watches help me out with that.As I've said though these watches do have some things that could be better.First an foremost is the size of the dial. These watches are pretty small. I don't have huge wrists and they are even a little small for me. They are essentially sized more appropriately as a large women's watch. It takes a little getting used to and if you like a smaller faced watch this may actually be an asset. The watch band is pretty light weight. The watch itself feels well made but the band is pretty light making it feel flimsy. It doesn't seem to have any problem holding up to daily use though so the issue is with feel and not quality. Also the edges of the links are not rounded and can be a little uncomfortable at times. Nothing horrible, just not great. On the plus side the band clips securely yet is very easy to release. It's also a nice looking band if not the best feeling. The final issue I have with these is the watch glass. It is not a mineral glass but some sort of Seiko proprietary material. It gets scratched pretty easily. At least for my use. I work and play pretty hard, working in industry and on cars. The glass will get scratcher pretty quickly until I end up replacing it. The watch will still function fine but the scratches in the glass will annoy me. With my last Seiko 5 I actually broke the glass (just after getting the time tuned in.) A few small pieces fell into the watch and stopped the hands. After I get the pieces out it worked for a while longer but then so e of the numerals came loose and jammed it up again. I finally replaced it. As I said though, I work and play pretty hard.If you don't do things that will damage this watch (most sports won't be any issue at all) and can live with the small face these watches are pretty amazing. If your hard on watches as I am these can work for you, just don't expect them to last forever. For me the biggest issue is the size of the face. I don't really understand why none of the Seiko 5's are available in a larger face. The mechanism could be the same and with the exception of slightly more material, could be identical. I'm sure 5% more SS material wouldn't add much cost. Barring that issue though, I really love these watches.

Imagine my surprise when I removed my new Seiko (?) watch from the box to find a "made in China" sticker on the back. The movement looks the same as my 20 year old made in Japan Seiko that is in need of a servicing that costs more than a replacement. I purchased this watch because of the elapsed time bezel. I like to know how much time has gone by while running errands. The elapsed time ring on this watch is a fake. It doesn't turn. If that's a fake, I have to wonder if the watch is a fake too. At least it is self winding, keeps time and has a really nice band. The price was comparable to Seiko's lower end watches, so maybe they're outsourcing some production to China. Either way, if it works as well as my last Seiko, I'll be happy.

This watch is absolutely stunning, the blue dial and the machining on the face is exquisite. The bracelet has a simple, yet timeless look to it and the clasp, while it is stamped has a very expensive feeling cover. You cannot go wrong for this quality of automatic watch with in house movement with a display case back for this price. A definite buy.

I wear this watch daily to work and put it under lots of hazardous conditions and it runs great. Two small scratches on the face after several months of use. After a week it's about 3 minutes slow. I'm pleased with it and will defiantly buy another seiko when the time comes.
