SEIKO SUR360 Watch for Men

What a great price for a fine Seiko watch! It's Solar powered - no batteries to buy or mainsprings to constantly re-wind! The watch should stay pretty much constantly charged, as long as you store it in a place where it can receive light when not wearing it, and don't keep it in a dark drawer. It features a day/date display, luminous paint on the hours and hands to tell the time in the dark, and a very fine and accurate Japanese Seiko movement. The "sunburst" dark blue/grey dial face is elegant and understated, and accented by the gold tone ring on the outer case. The "brown" leather band is a little too "reddish" for me, although I cannot say that it looks bad. It's just a matter of personal preference and something that can be easily changed if you wish. Some reviewers have observed that the band wears out quickly and cracks easily. All leather bands will do this over time, but a little bit of leather conditioner applied a couple of times a year might help to delay this as well as soften it and thereby improve your comfort. All in all, I'm very pleased with and enjoy wearing this fine watch.

I wanted a new watch that looked nice, but was still casual and simple. I've had this watch about a week and so far I am loving it. It's simple and just tells you the time and date. It's a solar watch, and since I've only had it a week I can't comment on how long it will last, but it theoretically should last at least 10 years and hopefully more without ever having to change the battery. I specifically wanted a solar watch for that reason because I always had to change regular batteries in previous watches often. Some reviewers have mentioned three "ghost" lines on the face, and I can see them in certain lights but I believe they are part of the solar panel and I only see them if I actually go looking for them. It has not been an issue for me just looking at it and seeing ghost lines so I wouldn't worry about that. I did set the time the first day I got it and a week later I do see that the watch is two seconds faster than when I set it compared to my phone. I'll keep an eye on it and update my review if I need to but I don't think it will be a problem with the time getting off very far. The band is a little stiff but not overly stiff. Over time I think it will conform to my wrist. I like the band. So if you're looking for a simple casual good looking watch that should last you a long time, I would recommend this watch.

this watch is subtle but good looking. a slightly sporty dress watch that never needs a battery. it's fairly versatile in that it dresses down or up easily. a bit of flair with the gold-tone accents but the size (39mm) keeps it manageable. time is accurate and will keep a charge for months once fully powered. looks low-tech but isn't. the band, honestly, isn't that bad. it's an OEM calf leather strap and quite durable. I initially considered replacing it because it's a bit shiny, but I decided to wait a bit, and see if it develops a patina. I could see maybe swapping it out for a two-tone bracelet or black leather strap, just to change up the look -- but that would probably be more of a decision necessitated by if this is your everyday watch or not.if you have a bunch of watches and swap out frequently, it may not be worth the bother. I generally prefer leather straps on watches < 42mm and bracelets on larger watches. at 39mm, this Seiko is firmly in the dress watch size category. with sports watches, the trend is to go big. This is the opposite of that. Pair it with soft sweaters, dress, shirts, blazers, and loafers or plain toe oxfords. Let the simplicity of this piece speak volumes.

Update: I consciously checked watch for glow after turning out the light last night. It did have a faint glow but not enough to discern the time. This is a nice enough looking watch. The leather band does NOT look cheap IMMHO as other reviewers have complained. There is a low satin shine to the leather, much like you might find on a new pair of non-patent LEATHER shoes i.e. penny loafers. Of course if you like a flat brown natural leather look, this band may not suit you, but cheap looking? Not. The gold rim around the face is not a flashy gold but more subdued, so if you like flashy tacky this look may not suit you either. The face has a nice presentation, the date is easily read - has to be reset for non 31 day months but this is easily done, and most importantly the watch has kept very accurate time for the weeks that I've owned it.I do not consciously have to set it in sunlight for hours on end to keep it running on time. I have worn it normally, even in bed as is my habit (not in the shower), with no problems. It does NOT glow in the dark. I did set it in the window one time for several hours of direct sunlight and it had a glow when I removed it, but that quickly faded and it has never glowed in the dark since I have been wearing it. If the seller or manufacturer knows how I can get it to sustain it's glow when in darkness without consciously subjecting it to direct sunlight for many hours (and even that didn't work but for a few minutes of glow) on a regular basis I would appreciate a response here. Perhaps if I worked outside every day all day long that would make a difference in night time glow, but I don't. If it behaved as advertised concerning glowing in the dark I would have given it a 5 star overall rating, but it doesn't.I like the watch and believe it will last me at least for MY lifetime. ;-)
