These are front/back earrings. The pearl strand with the starfish is attached to the metal butterfly back. The earrings also came with an alternate back in case you want to wear just the pearl strand with the shell. The charms could be a little larger, but these are nice earrings and are well made. The earrings are lightweight and comfortable. Nice beachy vibe.

I find these earrings versatile and interesting. You can actually wear them three ways:1. You can wear both parts of the set you see in the ad.2. You can wear just the front part with the shell (it has the post) with a back.3. You can wear a stud earring and wear the back part with the star fish (it has the butterfly back).They are not at all heavy, so they won't weigh your earlobes down but they come with a disk back, too.I think their ad is carefully worded concerning the pearls. They don't use the word 'genuine' in their ad (not going to paste their words here). They don't scratch my tooth like real pearls are supposed to, so I guess they are fake, and there's no enclosure stating they are genuine so no complaint there. There's a nice reusable see through box.The only thing that I think could improve these earrings would be to put the turquoise stone on both the front and back of the star fish--they do tend to turn around so it would be nicer to see the turquoise on both sides. 5 stars
