Product Description

MARIANA TRENCH - Limited series of automatic watches with relief of the Mariana Trench, water-resistant to 20 ATM

The detailed measurement of the seabed has been an ambitious goal of scientists all over the world for decades and is as dangerous as it is costly. Although one glance at a world map gives the impression that the earth and the seabed surface are completely mapped, only a fraction of it has actually been explored. In this context, the Mariana Trench and the history of its exploration are particularly fascinating. This deep-sea trench is around 2500 kilometers long and lies in the western Pacific Ocean. Its maximum depth, and thus the deepest point in the ocean, is approx. 11,000 meters (approx. 36,000 feet). Like the Mariana Islands, the trench was named after the Spanish Queen Maria Anna of Austria.

The watch series MARIANA TRENCH shows a dial with a pronounced relief of the Mariana Trench beneath its scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. At its lowest point, the dial breaks through the border with the movement and, through drilled craters, reveals some of the otherwise hidden ruby bearing stones and parts of the train. The 24-hour display is designed as a compass rose, with the pointer, shaped like a compass needle, showing the 24-hour time with its red tip. The date is at the 6 o'clock position. Maritime dew appliqués frame the date and name plateau.

The elaborate 10-piece steel case with ion-plated blue, brown or black bezel has a diameter of approx. 46 mm and a thickness of 14 mm. It has the shape of a submersible capsule. The screwed steel floor bears the engraved data of the Mariana Trench. A glass window reveals the balance of the movement. The large pointer tips and indexes filled with Superluminova make it easy to read the time even under water. The MARIANA TRENCH with its screw-in crown, strong sapphire crystal, solid case and 8-fold screwed back is suitable for diving depths up to 20 ATM test pressure.

The waterproof nylon straps in green, blue, brown and black, which are particularly popular with swimmers and divers, are soft, durable and comfortable to wear. They are provided with a KRONSEGLER emblem button and padded with water-repellent polyurethane on the underside. An extra-long pin buckle and the perforation, which is also reinforced with PU, ensure a secure fit on the wrist, in contrast to the Velcro fasteners, drawstrings and folding clasps that are often used with nylon straps. This prevents the watch from being accidently lost unnoticed in the water.

The watch is delivered in an extra-large exclusive box with a certificate card, a 16-page booklet with a detailed description and a polishing cloth.

Geographical Location Of The Mariana Trench

Far north of the equator at 11° 21′ 0″ N, 142° 12′ 0″ E, the Mariana Trench runs directly east of the group of islands (Mariana Islands) belonging to the Micronesian islands. It is located around 2000 kilometers east of the Philippines, north and south of the island of Guam. With its deepest point of around 11,000 meters, the trench is the deepest seabed on earth. To the north, this semicircular ocean trench flows into the Bonin Trench, which is followed by the Japan Trench further north. In the south there are the Caroline Islands, in the southwest is the Yap Trench and in the west - behind the Mariana Islands - the Philippine Sea. There the Mariana Trench is located between 12 ° and 25 ° north latitude and 142 ° and 147 ° east longitude. The trench itself is about 2500 kilometers long.

Geology And Depth

The Mariana Trench is part of a system that consists of the West Mariana Ridge, the Mariana Trough (back-arc basin), the Mariana Islands, the Mariana forearc and the Mariana Trench. The Western side of the trench is the edge of a former island arch that split a few million years ago. Its two parts have since moved away from each other at a speed of a few centimeters per year, which is how today's basin was created. In the Mariana Trench there are, among others, these troughs:

• Vityaz 1

(11,034 meters according to a measurement from 1957; therefore the deepest known point in the ocean. Other depth measurements showed values between 10,900 m and 11,000 m.)

• Challenger Deep (10,928 meters)

• Trieste (Western basin) (10,916 meters)

• Sirena Deep (10,809 meters)
