Pure Gold, known as 24k gold, is entirely gold, 24 parts out of 24. Most jewelry however, is made from either 18k, 14k, or 10k gold. Pure gold is alloyed with other metals for added strength and to produce a variety of colors, most commonly yellow, white, and rose. The percentage of gold to its weight plus the alloy is what is referred to as the karat of gold. Higher karat gold jewelry products offer heightened intrinsic value than their lower karat equivalents.

If treated carefully, gold jewelry can last a lifetime and handed down to future generations. To keep gold shining and scratch-free, avoid contact with harsh chemicals and store in a lined jewelry box or pouch. Smelting is a procedure wherein a metal is extracted from its ore by heating beyond melting point, usually with the presence of oxidizing agents. Through smelting, pure metals such as silver ingots and gold ingots are produced.

Through the years our company has been able to witness firsthand the production process of fine gold and sterling silver jewelry since we have manufacturers who create sterling silver chain and gold chain from smelting to final polishing and packaging. We also have ones who start from mixing alloys.

We watched as 24K gold is distributed accordingly to produce the desired gold carat chain, mixed with its corresponding alloy and melted and gets poured into a casting machine, solidified, then formed into a rod. We observed as the gold rod is turned into a coil then into a wire, which is then distributed to different types of machines that will create the gold chain necklace we need. We were also given the opportunity to have a hands-on experience of soldering the clasps on to the gold chain necklace.

Each KoolJewelry gold chain necklace is placed inside a zip lock type bag, then packaged in a KoolJewlery branded black velvet pouch; ready for gift giving.

The packaging was rather lackluster for what was inside (it arrived in a drawstring wedding-favor-type bag, inside of two tiny plastic baggies, all sent in an envelope), but it did the job, as it arrived undamaged. This beauty sparkles! The clasp is basic, but secure. I would definitely order again!

It was a very pretty neckace, but it broke in less than a week and I thought I had lost an heirloom pendant. I later found it and the chain in my dishwasher. After examination, I found that the clasp was faulty. Too late to return it but thankful I found my pendant. Will not order, again.

Chain is a nice, light weight. I really like the little boxes that make the links. Some reviews complained that it broke quickly. I don't sleep in jewelry or have little ones that will tug on it so I don't expect to have a problem. It is a fine gauge chain. Because the box links are so tiny, the ends are soldered to the clasp. I think it would be stronger (and more easily repaired) if the boxes were linked to the clasp. I noticed on the clasp it is marked 10K and then above it has a F. I'm not sure what this indicates. I bought it expecting it to be 10K solid gold, period. Usually gold filled is marked 10KGF. I'm hoping the F doesn't mean filled and that it will tarnish down the line.

I was given a necklace from Kay Jeweler's for my birthday and this chain is much better quality than what I got with my diamond pendant! Kay's disappointed also because I needed a longer chain and it was going to almost $200 for something that was less quality. I am very happy that I was found this. The clasp is easy to open and not hard to put on. My hair doesn't get tangled in the chain at all. I am very satisfied with this purchased!

Although thin, the chain appears to be strong and looks great with my pendants.Update:Well, less than a year later and the chain has broken. I also lost a gold cross pendant that I gave to my Mom two months before she died thanks to the broken chain. I will not purchase from this seller again.
