Perhaps Alexandrite's greatest appeal is its magical color change: blue/green under sunlight or LEDs, purple/red under incandescent light. The stone is quite dark without a fair amount of light, so people will mainly see the occasional flash of blue/green or purple/red. Well, unless, like myself, you buy a pair of 2-cell AAA Energizer LED flashlights from amazon, remove the LED from one of them and slide in an incandescent flashlight bulb in its place. Then, your wife, too, can have the fun of her husband following her around the party shining the two lights in turn on her pendant while saying, "Cool, huh? Cool!"But I digress. Notwithstanding the above, after I presented my wife with this pendant, she not only liked it, but was happy when I followed up with a pair of earrings to match. Unusual stone, nicely mounted (though it could do with a small diamond just to catch the eye) and worth the price being charged.BTW, there are apparently a lot of counterfeit alexandrites out there. They are actually a different stone (I forget the name) and have minimal color change. These are true Russian lab-created alexandrites, chemically identical to the original.
