While pure silver can be combined with many different types of metals, Sterling Silver is created when combining pure silver with copper . Sterling Silver jewelry can be composed with different amounts of copper but is most often seen with the .925 stamp, meaning that the composition is of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper. This has been found to be a good combination for maintaining the silver's durability without harming its sparkle.
Silver, when exposed to the air will always naturally oxidize, i.e. tarnish. To prevent this your Sterling Silver pendant is protected by a clear coat, baked on, lacquer so it is not in direct contact with the air. To ensure the longevity of this protection you should never use silver cleaning products as they will damage coating. You should also make sure your pendant does not come into contact with harsh household chemicals such as bleach, ammonia, or chlorine.
If you notice any dirt build up over time you can simply wash the jewelry in a mild dish soap, dry off (do not use anything abrasive) and then shine up with a microfiber cloth - like the ones you get with eyeglasses.
It is highly recommended to not wear your jewelry while showering or swimming - harsh chemicals can damage your jewelry.

This cross is beautiful. It is a perfect size for daily wear, and the craftsmanship is superb. We looked at a lot of crosses before choosing this one and were really glad we did. The description of the cross states accents which must mean the shiny tips of the cross. The rest of it is very dull and looks like stainless steel. The back of the cross is stamped "Sterling BLI" You can do your own search on that. I couldn't determine if it's the Bliss manufacturer or a designation for low quality sterling silver religious pendents. The description states the chain and pendent is .925 sterling silver but it is not stamped anywhere on them. The chain looks nice and the detail on Jesus is nice which earns it one star. I'm still shopping for a crucifix.

UPDATED to add they had us send it back and sent us free shipping supplies then returned it quickly in perfect condition and we haven’t had an issue since (1-2yrs still in perfect condition wearing daily)I got this for my husband and we loved everything about it but its poorly made and comes off of the chain constantly... we had it fixed several times until he just quit wearing it
