I went mining for Herkimer diamonds this summer with my son, and came home with over 200 pristine little gems.Most of them will be used in artwork &/or jewelry...but some are/were SO gorgeous I wanted to give them as gifts and to display the larger ones for myself.I LOVE that these little "thumbnails" have a white and a black side for display...because the Herks look so much better against a black background.These little boxes are unbelievably secure (make sure you open them upside-down when you have gems inside, so the stone sits in the lid, instead of flying/falling out!!). I've dropped a couple by accident, and nothing was damaged at all.Snug molded plastic, actual quality glass tops, reversible b/w backing choice, and you can trim the foam to fit larger stones.Awesome buy. Great quality and great price!

Didn't check upon receipt of the gem jars but one was damaged and few had loose glass. Also, found it difficult to center stones in the case and adjust for the height of stone. May take several attempts.

These are excellent quality. I was disappointed in the size. It was my fault because I didn’t pay attention to the description. So if you’re looking for a specific size be sure to read the specifications.

Neat little things; they were highly useful for my purposes of storing smaller gems in a proper container. The cover is fully-inclusive and snaps on, so once it's on, it's on. As for the base, it's a thin plastic platform with a foam block that has a velvet-y fabric with different colors on either side (black and grey, presumably swapped around as needed). The foam block reaches all the way up to the plastic cover, so when closed, if there was a gap between the foam and the cover, it would be within 1mm since 3mm cut gemstones fit very tightly between the foam and the cover.Since the base is not solid, I would assume that you could use this to store any small, easily lost object in such a way that you can clearly see the object, and it cannot be easily lost. A 3mm gemstone is pointy at the base and I always had concerns that a plastic bag is not the most effective way to store it, even if those concerns were unfounded. I would imagine that if you collected coins or wanted a good way to store small jewelry such as earrings this would be very useful as well, but keep in mind that while the box is 1"x1", the given dimensions of the foam are 3/4"x3/4", so it will likely not fit most others.My only concern with it was the price, which was rather high, but given the lack of cheap alternatives I would guess the increased price is resultant of the precise manufacturing limiting the tolerances so low, since there were no apparent defects nor distinguishing marks due to manufacturing from one to another.

I love these jars. I feel like they have more of a professional look than the round acrylic jars. These are extremely durable and protect your gems and maintain their professional appearance in the case of an accidental drop. These boxes also lock tighter than the round acrylic jars which means your stones will not go flying in the event of a drop. The only problem I had was with how expensive they are. $9 and change is a bit pricey for only a dozen jars when other jars (acrylic) can be bought for around the same price in quantities of 50.
