Perfect for storage, but not amazing quality

Fairly impressed with the quality on this item. Some of the previous reviews had claimed that the foam was too loose or that the jars popped open easily, etc. However, I found that the items hold nicely in the foam (they're filled in the jars almost right up to the top-so secure items sit without sliding around). The jar lids were actually pretty snug on the jars. Have not had any issues with any of them popping off or becoming lose. In fact, there were a few that were rather hard for me to open. The foam itself is good quality-not chincy and holds good form. I took photos so that you can see how the item comes apart and other angles that are not provided. The black board is made of a wood, lined with a leather type feeling material around it. Very smooth. Jars pop out of foam easily and insert without issue. I use mine for my gemstones (I'm studying for my AJP at GIA, so I have accumulated several pieces for studying purposes. I also like that the foam inside the jars can pop out, so that I can slide a piece of paper on the inside under side of the jar to show what each jar holds, pop it back in and voila! In photo 3 you can see that each jar sits firmly inside the foam insert-I'm holding the foam piece vertical and not one jar slid out. Each jar fits a quarter, with room to spare. Perfect for what I need it for, will be buying more in the near future!

Filled up the first one I ordered with my smaller gemstones and was very happy with it so I ordered another to contain my ever growing collection of faceted stones and smaller cabochons that were otherwise challenging to organize. I have not had significant yellowing of the foam like others have mentioned so far and I don't really need a glass top as this is only for my own storage use and not for display. It stacks easily and keeps my little gems in easy view so I can see what I have. I cut out a round piece of cardstock and label it and place it in the bottom, replace the foam and then place the gem on top and close the lid. The gem is held securely by the foam and I can flip over to see what I paid, the size and the vendor so I can reorder.

Thanks to another Mama who recommended this I snagged one up for my sons birthday Emergency Fossil Dig Kit. It perfectly houses all his various sharks teeth he has found. We will be more to store his various rock collections from his mining. Hands down the best for two reasons 1) Affordability and 2) Quality. My son avidly collects nature and display cases can be so costly to keep up with all his wonderful treasures. These are priced perfect, durable and look stunning displayed in his room.

The box is very sturdy, and, most importantly, the lids stay on very well. I have not have had any problem with them popping off and spilling gems, unlike another brand I have tried(GemVue}. I also like the white background. For me, gems show up better than against black, but, that's a personal thing, I guess. The only thing I took points off for was lack of a cover. I guess I just assumed it came with one, since all of the others I've purchased did. It would be nice if it did. Still, I would definitely buy another one. To any one who has a GemVue tray from JTV and is as disgusted with it as I am, I advise you to do what I did. I bought a gem jar insert from Amazon, the same size as my box and ripped out the GemVue lining. The replacement,(same type of jar as this) was a perfect fit and now I have a useful box with secure jars. JTV used to carry trays with a jar with a screw on top, that was much better. I'll never buy another GemVue tray. I plan to get more of these, as I said though, just wish they came with covers.

I just started a gemstone collection and bought this tray to display them in - it works perfectly. The stones and their various colors show nicely against the white foam. The lids fit snugly and hold the stones in place. The overall feel is solid with a little heft to it so that pleases. There is some foam "dust" that needs to be cleaned off the inside of the plastic lids, and there is no dust cover over the display box, but I am very happy with this purchase. I plan on buying more as my collection grows.

Works great for smaller gemstones as the firm foam in the little containers keep them nice and snug in place. I however, have larger stones and I really need to squash the foam before i put the stone in. The caps of containers hold on tight really well, however still be careful while handling as the tops do have the possibility of popping off. I haven’t experienced this but I do not want to risk dropping my more expensive stones.

I wanted some white background jars and couldn't find them in a glass-covered case at the time, so I purchased this tray to use to hold several small dark-colored gemstones. I much prefer the glass covered cases and have now found such a case with white foam filled watch glass jars in it instead of black. I will soon replace this tray with the case.

The media could not be loaded.  This is perfect for me for storing my gems in my workspace, but it is pretty cheap, so you might want a nicer one if you display to sell them. It’s very inexpensive, and I feel that I got exactly what I expected, no complaints! The foam inside hold them nice and tight, but I must admit that means that they kind of want to roll right out when you pop the lid. But they don’t go flying, you’ll just have to be careful.
