Saw the very low price so gave the watch a try. The Ratio Field watch is made from a nice chunk of stainless steel with a nice brushed finish. The easy reader green dial with sapphire crystal really pops outs and the plain black numbers stand out too. So comforting to see a large highly visible second hand tic, tic, ticking in a circular motion on the green dial. The Japanese quartz movement also has the second hand land strait on the second markers about 75% of the time. Highly unusually for a watch at this low price. The green canvas strap goes great with the green dial, although the quality is barely ok. Have to cut corners somewhere on a low priced watch, rather it be in the strap instead of the watch. The lumen is barely visible, if you need a nighttime watch get a Timex. But in daylight and indoor light the green dial is simply a superb standout. Will try another watch from the Ratio brand soon.

With these specs this watch represents good value, the face isn't fully lumed & the crown is pull out contrary to what you might think. Nevertheless it has all you would want in basic field time piece, there is lume on the hands albeit nominal rather than the generous lume you will get on some divers watches. The case looks a bit thicker than photographs would indicate, VX42 is a Seiko/Epson using a standard 371 or SR920SW battery that should give about 36 months per install. It is quite likely that the cheap VX42 mechanism gives a lot better performance than the original chronometer that Meriwether Lewis purchased in Philadelphia in 1803 that cost at that time a whopping $250, though it would have been a beautiful 'Arnold's Watch' protected in a specially made case.

for 55 bucks cant go wrong. However I did swap out the canvas band for a $20 black leather band. the canvas seemed to irritate my arm while sleeping, could just be me though.

I'll admit, value-priced watches can be a bit hit-or-miss. This one is definitely a hit. Everything about it just screams subtle class. From the matte steel case, to the tiny logo concealed in plain sight on the second hand, fit and finish on this is just beautiful. It even comes in a very attractive presentation box. Pictures just don't do it justice. The watch has kept excellent time since I received it. It's simple, and easy to read. If there's anything to complain about, I do really wish that there was luminous paint on more than just the hands, because in the dark it's going to be hard to be sure about the time unless you already have a pretty good idea what it already is.This is a really great value for a gorgeously understated watch.
