Having grown up in the seventies and eighties at the height of the Cold War, in my teens I began a series of studies to "know thine enemy" and researched the history of the Soviet Union, specifically the period leading up to the October Revolution. This then led to a lifelong fascination with the period of the tsars, of which the history of Peter Carl Faberge is so intrinsically intertwined. This exquisite piece pays a beautiful homage to both.All three pieces are made of a solid, heavy metal and overlaid with a nice enameling (I chose purple), gold-tone filigree, and rhinestones. The egg is hinged for jewelry storage (if you like) and the rampart lion stand holds the egg in place for display, though the raised paws aren't all even so the egg rests heavily on one side without touching all the paws on the other, which makes positioning and balancing a little tricky.While the egg itself looks nothing alike, its carriage counterpart is a definite callout to the surprise inside the Imperial Coronation Egg of 1897. Quality not even comparable, the overall design is so similar even down to the rotating axles, though the front wheels are not articulated to allow for turning. Instead of hinged doors, however, the carriage top is what opens on this little gem. And yes, it fits comfortably inside the egg with the ability to still close and clasp, though unlike the original there is no velvet lining so I wouldn't recommend putting it in and leaving it due to scratching.Yes, it may seem a bit pricey, but for the knockoff collector, this is a must-have. So glad to add it to my collection!

Surely this is one of the prettiest things I've come across in a very long time. Here we have a replica of the famous "Russian Faberge Egg". I remember growing up and admiring the actual Faberge egg that my father had gotten while he traveled for work. So when I saw this, I was immediately drawn in by the intricate detail of this beautiful Russian Faberge Egg. I chose the purple color, but know they also provide the choice of a white egg or red egg. This egg is larger than what I had originally expected, definitely pleased by this fact.This Faberge egg comes in a nice giftable box. With this set, you will have the following:*Faberge Egg*Carriage*Leg support--- Faberge Egg--Each piece deserves time to speak on, as this is an incredible set. The Egg itself is absolutely stunning. Know that this is a HAND-CRAFTED egg. The detail on the egg is breathtaking. Reading about the process of creating this egg, I was impressed with what all it entailed. They use a special method of crafting this including an "ancient lost wax" method. I'm not sure exactly what that entails, but I do know the end result is magnificent. The jewels are hand placed by the artist. Before I took this out of the plastic wrap, I could tell right away this is an extremely lovely heirloom that I would love to pass down to my daughters. Matter of fact, my youngest came up to me as soon as I got it placed, and said, "can I have that when you know"....Sigh, yes of course. Inside the Egg it is painted a rosy pink salmon color. The color works well against the purple on the outside, the contrast makes this appearance even more aesthetically appealing.Leg Support -It is beautifully crafted, in gold enamel it supports the egg nicely. Fitting perfectly into the holder - adds more depth to the egg.Carriage-A matching carriage is included. Oh my, this is ANOTHER phenomenal addition to the set. The carriage is also hand crafted and you can tell how much work went into crafting this lovely carriage. The door to the carriage opens, it still amazes me how anyone can be so talented to create such a masterpiece.This Russian Faberge egg can be used in many different fashions. You can use this for jewelry or other trinkets. I personally am using this to store my wedding ring. Being able to ensure that the most important piece of jewelry I own is safe - and secure this inside this gorgeous egg. Probably best to display in a curio cabinet or mantle, away from curious children. This displays well and would make a fine gift for Faberge lovers. Put on cotton gloves and handle for closer examination, and you will see the craftsmanship is not the greatest. The wheels on the wagon roll with a noticeable wobble as they aren't attached correctly to the axles. The egg is not 6.5 inches as advertised. The egg on its stand together get to 6.5. The stand is poorly designed. The egg does not rest on all six lion paws. It rests on three but looks like it could easily topple. The gemstones were all there, but I noticed two that were loose or showed a gap. Again, this egg will display well and add pop and bling to your decor. Just handle as little as possible.
