I love pearls and freshwater pearls have come a long way in the past 20 years from little wrinkly rice crispy type pearls to near round and comparable to saltwater pearls. These are lovely pearls with a decent nacre and some modest luster. The listing states these are AAAA-grade genuine freshwater cultured pearls. While I can verify that these are genuine freshwater cultured pearls, I find the grading problematic. First of all there is no international standard for pearl grading. The Gemological Society of America (GIA) uses a A-AAA rating system and it is one of the most well known and widely used grading systems. Unfortunately many pearl sellers use the familiarity of it without adhering to it's grading. Since GIA only goes to AAA, many sellers will use a scale like AAAA or AAAAA to make you think you're getting something better than the top-tier pearls according to GIA's scale. Since there isn't an international standard anyone can make up their own grading system. These pearls on a GIA scale are AA maybe AA+. They are white and uniform in color. The shape is off-round which is typical of freshwater pearls. They are matched well in size, color, and shape and this provides a uniform look across the entire strand and they are individually knotted between each pearl. The surfaces are good with around a 60-75% clean surface. There is definitely no orient, but there is a modest luster. I would rate the luster as fair to good with modest reflection. Overall, this is consistent with GIA's AA grading. The clasp is nice and I like the ease of it along with the strength of the clasp. The clasp has a lovely appearance that fits well with the classic elegance of pearls. These do come in a decent package that would be giftable, but it isn't as nice a box as I've gotten with most of my pearl sets.I'm not a pearl snob and I appreciate pearls in all qualities, shapes, and sizes. My favorite are actually the fireball pearls which are beautifully unique with comet-like tails. What I don't like are some of the misleading grading practices in the industry. This company doesn't have a chart in their listing or a website with a chart to view how they grade their pearls and uses a AAAA grade here. These are beautiful pearls and they look lovely but they aren't top-quality pearls they are mid-quality. They should be marketed as such. There's nothing wrong with a AA or AA+ pearl and you can see in many customer as well as company pictures these still look lovely. Just make sure you understand what you are getting before you purchase it. These are perhaps a little high in price for the pearl quality, but not unreasonably high in my opinion.

The package was beautiful, and the necklace rested on the mold of the black padding quite nicely.The necklace’s lock wasn’t bad quality (I have read some people’s came tarnished, but mine didn’t).The string of pearls was lesser quality than I thought, I did get them for $29.99 because it was a sale.Nonetheless, I didn’t expect so many of them to be that deformed (I know cultivated pearls have come a long way).They were tinier Bryan I thought but I guess that’s my fault for not looking for the size correctly, other than that it was an ok product
