Product Description

AMUNDSEN 90°0’0”S Chronograph & Telemeter

On 14 December 1911, the Norwegian seaman and polar explorer Roald Amundsen was the first man to reach the geographical South Pole. Amundsen was also one of the first humans to reach the geographical North Pole and, in terms of the number of goals he achieved during his expeditions, was the most successful explorer in the Arctic and Antarctic. One of the indispensable instruments of his expeditions was a telemeter to measure the distances of thunderstorms and other light phenomena.

The KRONSEGLER AMUNDSEN 90°0’0”S ladies’ and men’s watch series combines the functions of a chronograph with time display in 12- and 24-hour mode, stop mechanism, date display and a telemeter. The men’s model measures 42 mm in diameter, the women’s version 34.5 mm.

All watches have a clear white dial with large printed Arabic numerals. The date display, surrounded by a double frame, is in the 6 o’clock position. Two totalizers at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock show the 24 hour time (on the right) and the 60 minute stop time (on the left). The 24 hour hand and the large 12 are red. These red display elements serve the normal time display. The two hands in the middle and on the left serve for stop and telemeter measurement and are uniformly designed with a pointer end in the shape of a diamond star, similar to the optical appearance of a large star in the night sky. The central hour/minute hands are classic leaf-shaped and blued. The scale for the telemeter, which is also blue, is in the centre.

The watches are clearly readable and designed in the blue/red and white of the colours of the Norwegian flag. The case colours in steel and gold are combined with black, brown, blue and white leather straps made of padded cowhide leather. The straps are equipped with quick-change bars so that straps of different colours can be changed quickly if necessary.

The watch is delivered in a black long box with a silver AMUNDSEN 90°0’0”S logo, a brand tag, a certificate number and a booklet.

Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen was a Norwegian explorer of polar regions. He led the Antarctic expedition of 1910–12 which was the first to reach the South Pole, on 14 December 1911. In 1926, he was the first expedition leader for the air expedition to the North Pole. Amundsen is recognized as the first person, without dispute, as having reached both poles. He is also known as having the first expedition to traverse the Northwest Passage (1903–06) in the Arctic. An indispensable instruments of his expeditions was a telemeter for measuring the distances of thunderstorms and other light sources.
