This review is for Alpina Men's Startimer Stainless Steel Swiss-Automatic Watch with Leather Strap, Black, 21 (Model: AL-525G4TS6)The watch’s frame feels well made but I cannot say the same thing for the band. The overall construction of the watch is excellent. The band looks and feels kind of cheap when you consider the price point on this watch. The numbers are very easy to read. You have the date option as well. You can easily wind the date and the time and the best thing you don’t need to worry about replacing the battery as it is working with kinetic energy all you need is to move the watch.

In a time when we are so connected that our watches are constantly trying to get our attention and direct us to social media, it's refreshing to have a mechanical watch doing just what a watch is meant to do, tell you the time! Wearing the Alpina Startimer Pilot is an absolute joy and makes you feel like you are in a simpler time. The tick of the second hand is soothing while at the same time is a call to action as you feel time passing with every movement. The Alpina Startimer is everything you want a pilot's watch to be, with large hand-applied indexes filled with luminescent material. The face of the watch has bold numerals at the hours except for 12, 3, 6, and 9, which have straight indexes and a small date window at three o'clock on a disc that matches the dial. Out of the box, the watch looks like it will wear bigger than it actually does, but it is so comfortable you can easily make it your everyday watch. The overall construction makes this watch feel like it should cost way more than it does. This model is powered by a third-party automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve, Sellita SW-200 (ETA 2824 clone). The movement is Swiss made and used on other Alpina watches. Unfortunately, this model does not allow us to see how well decorated the movements are as other Alpina watches do. The band feels thinner than you would expect but is very well made. Given how thin the band is, I would suggest installing a deployment clasp to extend the life of the band. Given the sense of nostalgia and the price point compared to other watches on the market, you cannot go wrong with the Alpina Startimer.
