Nice quality. Interesting smartwatch implementation.

Additionally, watchband is not leather. Its some kind of vinyl, plastic mix. There could be a little cheap leather in there so that they can legally call it leather, but its not readily-discernible. If you're wondering how I can tell, I do leatherwork as a hobbyist and have been doing so for years now.The pleather watchband was not a deal breaker. However, the stopping-working-not-too-long-after-purchase was. To be clear, the battery just didn't die. Some of the electric components are still working. The light behind the digital read out comes on and the hands swoop out of the way when you hit the main button. Still the hands do not tell the time and the digital read out shows no data (time, timer, etc...).I found the smart features to be useless. The temperature function requires taking off the watch and letting it sit for a period of time. But even then it didn't match the readings of my other temperature gauges. The sleep monitor requires either wearing the watch or putting it under your pillow to work. I did neither. The only smart feature I liked was that I could adjust the time by simply turning on bluetooth on my phone and opening up the app.Up until it stopped working, I did like the watch despite all its shortcomings. Its a beautiful watch. When people would ask me about it, I would tell them that I got a beautiful Swiss-made (aka high-quality) watch for pretty cheap ($515) because of the impotent smart features. Now, I know I just got a pretty watch.

It didn't work when I got it. Took it to a watch repair place to replace the battery and it still doesn't work. Turns out the dude at the watch repair shop didn't put right battery in. As far as I know all button type batteries have the same voltage but this one just didn't fit right. I put the new battery in myself seeing how a lot of places like Fred Meyer Jewelers won't touch a Swiss watch. Got it synced up in my phone and everything seems to be okay at this point. Did notice that if you're not constantly syncing up with your phone the time could be off.

Very nice looking watch, many good features.

The web picture shows a pale blue LCD diplay. In fact it is a dark brown display that can not be seen except in direct sunlight. If you are hiking on a cloudy day or at night the watch functions will not help you. It can not function as a stand alone analog watch. It must be set by your smart phone. It appears to be a quality watch with a sapphire crystal etc. There are better ABC analog watches at a lower price with the same swiss quality.I could not access some of the functions claimed in the write up such as UV level. As with most products you buy today there are no instruction manuals of any use. Even the app provides little in the way of help. You also have to set up an account while providing personal information.

This watc has everything I wanted out of an Apple Watch without having to charge it twice a day

The watch comes very nicely boxed in a leather clam shell case. It makes a great presentation. The watch is very nicely made and uses high quality materials. The black stainless steel, titanium, and fiberglass construction is very nicely done and the materials blend together well. The watch's strap is made from solid links, including the links that attach the watch band to the case. The links are nicely finished in both a brushed and glossy look. The fiberglass of the watch's case looks and feels a bit like high-quality plastic. The metal bezel around the face of the watch rotates uni-directional and moves very smoothly with no play. Even the case back is nicely done with an engraved design. Compared to my Tag Heuer Formula 1 watch this Alpina is every bit an equal in build quality and materials. The watch as an analog watch is exemplary. The face is bold and very nicely finished and detailed. The digits and hour markers are applied to the face and, along with the hands and bezel, have bright and evenly applied lume. There is an orange accent running around the perimeter of the face and the hands are orange. The watch is easy to read at a glance. Overall, it's a sporty and classy look. The watch as a smartwatch is just okay. The digital screen on the bottom of the face is hard to see unless you're in bright sunlight or turn on the back light. You turn on the back light by pressing the crown or buttons above / below the crown. When you use the digital display the analog hands will automatically move out of the way. The screen can display a number of measurements, and that's all fine and dandy. The issue I have is with notifications. The watch will only show you the number of notifications you have and the first three letters of who they are from. Nothing more. Moreover, the letters D and O on the display are hard to tell apart. The watch also tracks your sleep, but this is way too big and bulky to wear to sleep. The crown on the watch does not set the time. You do that via the app. The app works well on my iPhone XR, but it's a bit simple and intuitive to use.The watch uses a Swiss quartz movement. It's quiet and accurate. The watch is large and slightly wider than my wrist as a 5'6" and 135 pound male. I had to take a number of links out to get a proper fit. I had a jeweler's tool to remove the links and it was a bit difficult to remove them. They have a pin and collar set-up and are hard to push out. The butterfly clasp is easy to secure and holds firmly in place. Despite the watch's size and heft it's comfortable to wear all day.All in all... a fine watch, with half-baked smart implementation.

I recently bought the AlpinerX watch from Amazon. My first impressions were not good. The watch's case is made out of plastic or resin and the plastic bezel looks pretty bad too! Not what you would expect from a high quality Swiss watch, quite the contrary. Unfortunately, in my hands it felt like a cheap watch! The temperature and compass results were also quite off the mark, but the main problem with this model is the time itself! Believe it or not, but you cannot set the time manually! The time on the watch is determined by the Alpina app that you install on your phone and for some of the largest cities in South America, like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the folks from Alpina could not set up the correct time zone on the App, so the watch is constantly displaying the wrong time! I have contacted their Customer Service by email twice, but for some unknown reason they could not fix the bug! Steer clearly of this watch!
