Every watch aficionado should own this watch. Great history. Excellent quality. Beautiful mechanical watch. This is a good one we with the sapphire crystal. When you pick this watch up, the weight of it let's you know....this is quality.

I lost plenty of sleep over whether or not to purchase a Seagull 1963 but I’m glad I did. After many points of consideration, I chose the 38mm, Sapphire Crystal, option because of its price, quality, durability, history, and movement. The watch fits well and is actually less bulky than I thought. It took a while to get here because it came from Australia but good things take time. This is a popular item and I presume it will only gain momentum in a price sensitive but quality seeking environment.Thank you to the retailer. This is by far my most unique and now favorite time piece.

The Tianjin Seagull Watch Group is a watchmaking company located in Tianjin, China. Founded in 1955, it is the world's largest manufacturer of mechanical watch movements, producing one quarter of total global production by volume. The company was originally formed as Tianjin Watch Factory in January 1955 with four craftsmen on order of the People's Republic of China government. In 1990, the Tianjin Watch Factory was awarded the status of a national company, and in 1992, the Tianjin Seagull Corporation was founded. That same year, the decision was made to discontinue the production of mechanical watches in favor of quartz watches; five years later it came to a complete reversal of this decision. They have since produced exclusively mechanical movements and watches. The Tianjin Seagull has substantial expertise in the manufacture of mechanical watches. The Seagull 1963 is the official remake of the watch as it was created for pilots in the Chinese Airforce in 1963. It is a unique and classic masterpiece. It has a hand winding chronograph movement with 19 or 21 jewels and power reserve of 30 to 40 hours. The 1963 is considered a special edition. Depending on the model, the dial says "19 ZUAN" or "21 ZUAN", Chinese for "19" or "21 Jewels". The symbols on the lower half of the dial read "China - Tianjin Watch Factory".There aren’t too many other watches that boast a mechanical movement at this price point, and the sharp looks of the 1963 is just the icing on the cake. Overall, the Seagull 1963 is simply an unarguably fantastic value for your money. The Seagull 1963 is truly a special watch that any collector in the know would be thrilled to have. This is a 100% Chinese made and built watch, but don’t let that dissuade you, as the fully mechanical ST19 movement is every bit as good as the Venus 175 Swiss movement it is based on. Seen through the see-through case back, you can see just how well-decorated this movement is. Golden colored cogs, purple jewels, and guilloche striped parts make it a joy to look at through the see-through display case back. It really is an amazing movement and timepiece for the money. The Dial of the Seagull 1963 is nothing short of vintage. With a champagne hue that teeters the line between a very warm silver, it’s quite a looker. With gold applied hour markers alternating between Arabic numerals at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and arrow markers in-between, the shimmer of gold certainly adds a touch of almost-elegance to an otherwise militaristic vintage watch. The gold arrow markers point toward the center of the dial, focusing your eyes on the magnificent red and blue painted hands. The red-painted chronograph hand visually pops and completely captures your attention as it sweeps across the dial. The blue hour, minute, and sub-dial hands (this is a small seconds sub-dial movement as are most Swiss movements that it is based on) are beautifully done and are a perfect match for the 1963's dial. The red second hand is complimented by the red star logo, labeled 21 Zuan or 19 Zuan underneath to designate a 21 Jewel and 19 Jewel movement, respectively. It comes with the classic military green NATO strap, which I think is perfect for this watch, and an alternative brown leather strap. Both look great. The truth be told, the Seagull 1963 is a versatile strap monster that will look great on any variety of watch straps and wrists. When considering value, the Seagull 1963 is a watch with an original design, a completely mechanical chronograph, and a horological backstory that you can be proud to have in your collection. There aren’t too many other watches that boast a mechanical movement at this price point, and the sharp looks of the 1963 is just the icing on the cake. Overall, the Seagull 1963 is simply an unarguably fantastic value for your money. Once you spend a day with the 1963 strapped to your wrist, you will see why expert and amateur collectors worldwide consider it a must have for any collection.
