Bought this in 2012, stopped using it only because the battery died and I couldn't figure out how to change it. Only now, in 2023,spurred by a niece who found it while we were cleaning and wanted it badly did I figure out how. It takes a 377 size button battery, and if you take a needle (preferably a thick one) or something equivalently thin and push it into the little slot above the 12, and I mean HARD, the back will snap off and there is a white plastic circle thing with a smaller upraised circle you can grab with your fingers to lift off to access the battery, just be sure to put it back after you do. The back can be pressed back into place and is very secure. I got it open once, no idea how, and lightly pressed it back together because I didn't want it hanging open while I ordered batteries for it, and then couldn't get it open again! So a good hard press should work even better. But even after all these years of sitting with a dead battery, its ticking just fine now, though that's just judging from a half hour of it keeping time correctly! Hopefully that continues.

I love this thing :-) Yeeessss, it's a cheap pocket watch, "no one uses pocket watches anymore, and if they did it wouldn't be something with Chinese dragons on it, and blah blah blah." I get it. I didn't buy it to wear it to church or to funerals. I got it because I have a nerd's love of pocket watches. I needed something to bump up an Amazon order to $35 bucks to get the free shipping on something else anyway and when I got this in the mail I was pleasantly surprised. It's battery powered with Quartz action, and while that may not seem overly impressive in this day an age, remember that a quartz-watch, even a cheap one, will ultimately be more accurate than the equivalent-priced wind up, spring-powered mechanical watch (which I admit that, given my love of nostalgia, is what I really wanted).A few things to note: the "clip end" of the watch chain--the end that fastens to your button-hole or what have you; not the one that clips onto the watch--is very tightly pressed, meaning it won't slip loose like they tend to do on the other watches I've got. It will "pinch down" on your button hole, shirt pocket "lip", or whatever you want to call it. First watch chain I've seen to make a fasten-to-your-clothes end so tight. The brassy-color of the watch is very pleasant, and the designs on the cover are "pressed" into the metal; it's not some "decal" or anything (the back side of the watch is completely unadorned though it has a nice "brushed" look) and the dragons on it don't look all conspicuous and gaudy. You can't really tell that's a Chinese dragon you're looking at unless you really scrutinize the artwork on the watch cover. It just sorta looks like a pretty, nicely decorated pocketwatch. It has Arabic numerals just like in the picture and that's another point: the watch face & hands have a more English "Victorian" era look than a "funky Chinese" kind of look. The hinge on the cover on my watch is just a little "wobbly" with faint side-to-side play, but it doesn't feel overly flimsy. At least, not for a $12 dollar watch. I don't know that you "steam punk" role players will like it as much as I do but I suppose it would fulfill that niche well enough.Worth the asking price and worth the five star rating. I love mine.

I've own this for about 6 months now and it's been ok. I switch out between this one and another one almost every day, I take care of it, and I close it properly (by pressing the button to close). Here's a list:- The coating is pretty terrible. It's showing lots of wear and tear, mainly on the back bottom from where it slides into my pants pocket and also on one side.- It also took a while for the spring action to actually work properly. I would press the button and it would release, but I'm not sure if it was the weight or what, but it didn't actually "pop" open like ones I've had in the past. After a few months of use, it's finally in a place where I can press the button and it springs open.- Time has been kept up for the most part. There's been about 5 or 6 times where I've had to reset the time.- The pin keeping the cover on keeps slowly sliding out of place. I have to push it back in every few weeks. This has been a pretty common issue with most of my pocket watches though.Overall, it's been ok. I'm still on the lookout for a solid windup watch that keeps time and I don't have to push the pin in every time. For 8-12 bucks though, it could be worse, that's for sure.

I bought this watch as a gift for a college age son. It arrived fairly quickly through the US mail. The watch appeared to be of very good quality especially for the price I paid. I think I paid around $8.00 and it appears comparable to like a $25 or a little more pocket watch. The design on the front is distinctive and detailed. The plated finish appears very good. It doesn't look like it will wear off easily. It came with a chain that appeared to be of good quality. The numbers on the dial are clear and easy to read. However, the one thing I didn't like about the watch is that the numbers start with the 12 near the push button. I thought it made more sense and easier to use if the 12 was moved 90 degrees to the left, So when you held the watch in your right hand and pushed the button to open the cover the face of the watch would be aligned to read properly. Instead you have to tip or rotate the watch to read it. I wondered if this was a manufacturing mistake - but I compare to other pocket watches and some are like this and some have the face rotated. I put far too much time in writing this review. But I thought I got a bargain and wondered if someone had an over stock of these and were dumping them at a cheap price. Conclusion - good watch to buy if you like the color and design and like the orientation of the face. Oh Yeah - my kid liked the watch. At least he said he did.
